After having made the George Washington bridge the 200th bridge crossed since beginning their quest to cross every bridge in New York on a unicycle, the Unicycle New York City Bridge Tour group stopped by the New York Unicycle Club’s 3rd Saturday meeting in May at Grant’s Tomb. We had turn out of 15 club unicyclist welcome the weary unicyclist who rode down from the GW bridge crossing several other overpasses along the way. You can follow their continuous progress of bridge and overpass crossings on their website. Click on the photo above to check out the slideshow with all of the photographs taken in May of 2011.
With over 1000 photographs that were taken at regular New York Unicycle Club meetings it was quite difficult to choose just 150 to be included in the Best of 2010 album. It was even more difficult was to choose just a single photograph to represent the entire year’s worth of images.
.
Ironically with all that great unicycling images that I was able to capture throughout 2010, I chose this photo of Tysen practicing his stand up wheel walking skills at one of the December 2010 meetings.
Though it could be argued that I should have included them, I decided to excluded the 247 photographs that were taken at this year’s Unicycle Festival. Many of those images were captured at our first Sunday of September meeting that was made a part of this past year’s festival.
I attempted to include a variety of club of members who have attended meetings throughout the year. Amongst the photographs are many of the club members who have just learned to ride unicycle during 2010 by attending club meetings. Check out and enjoy the Best of 2010 slideshow and decide which ones are your favorites. I encourage you to come out to our 2011 club meetings and get an image of yourself captured on our Flickr site.
After a purchase glitch, the Flickr site reverted to a free account for the last few weeks. The free account unfortunately only shows a portion of the content that is held on the site. I have resolved the issues with Flickr. Now that things are back in proper order, you have full access to all of the photographs taken for the last couple of years including the photographs from the last two well attended meetings that took place this month. The November meeting’s photograph are now available in this Slideshow.
The 2010 New York City Unicycle Festival the first unicycle festival to take place in the north east was a huge success. Our NYUC first Sunday of the month meeting played a huge part. We had more than 100 unicyclist come to the meeting in front of Grant’s Tomb. Featured from two days of the three day festival we have on our Flickr site an Unicycle festival album with more than 240 images taken at the main festival that took place on Saturday on Governors Island and at the NY unicycle club meeting on Sunday. If you have the time take a look at the slide show of all of the photographs of unicyclist that came from all over the country to visit with us in support of sport of unicycling.
We were quite please to have had the opportunity to participate with so many other unicyclist in this event. We look forward to next years event that should be even better.
On the third Saturday in June, Teen News came to visit with us and interview a variety of unicyclist for a show that will air in the fall.
Unatic John Stone is pictured above being interviewed while holding up his 36′ Coker unicycle that he has ridden throughout Europe on several European tours as well as here in the states.
The club hosted two well attended unicycle meetings for the month of June. Check out the slide show of photographs that were taken at both meetings from the NYUC Flickr page. Come out to a unicycle meeting and get your picture taken and posted on our site.
For the second time in as many months Marcus, pictured below on the right riding with James, treated us with special unicycles that he brought to our NYUC meeting. One 6½ foot and two 9 foot giraffe unicycles all built by Tom Miller of the Unicycle Factory.
This one of the many photographs taken at this meeting that you can view on our Flickr site. You can view all of the photograph taken at the May 2010 meeting in this Slide Show.
Enjoy this short video clip of Marcus and James in action riding these tall unicycles.
Many of us seasoned unicyclist know that unicycles are made in a variety of wheel sizes and designs. That was made hugely apparent in our last meeting when Marcus arrived at the meeting with both the largest and smallest wheels at this day’s meeting. Check him out riding this tiny unicycle built by Tom Miller of the Unicycle Factory.
If you check out the slide show of the photographs from April 2010 on our Flickr site. you will see photos of a few Unatic riders trying out this small wheeled unicycle. You will also see many of us enjoying the opportunity to ride this large 43″ in diameter wheel on the unicycle below.
Pictured above is club founder David Stone taking a spin on this big 43″ one wheeled vehicle.
Besides unicycles, you never know what to expect at a NYUC meeting. So, come out and delightfully expect the unexpected.
Edmund “Eddie” Palao, unicyclist from the UK found us on the internet and decided to visit us at our March meeting on the third Saturday of the month.
Along with the rest us he had a great time on this warm first day of Spring. He had such a great time watching, riding and networking with all of the other unicyclist that were present. He later created this painting . In memory of his visit with the NYUC.
If you are considering a trip to the New York area, why not do like Eddie and plan your trip around the first Sunday or the third Saturday of the month so that you can stop by and visit with us.
These are just a couple of images captured at the meeting. You can view all of the photographs from both of our meetings in March, 2010 on our Flickr.com site in this slideshow.
Unicycling is considered by many to be a sport for the young. Many if not most current riders, myself included, have learned to ride unicycle between the ages of seven and seventeen. Thankfully, this does not deter individuals that have grown past that age bracket from learning to ride unicycle. At just about every one of our club meetings you can witness adult men and women making strong efforts to learn to ride. No matter what your current age happens to be, if you are interested in learning to ride a unicycle check out the Learn page on this website for some great tips on how to get started.
This meeting’s photograph’s highlight two gentlemen that have learned to ride as mature adults. A significant portion of the time they have spent learning has been at NYUC meetings. First there is Zach who has been riding unicycle for a little more than two years now. Pictured here riding his Nimbus 20″ freestyle unicycle. Zach often is one of the last riders remaining at the end of the unicycle club meetings he attends.
The second photo depicts one of our unicycle dads, Peter who is the father of NYUC member Xia. Xia is one of our quick learning young club members. Peter has been unicycle riding for less than one year. He recently took his 20″ Torker along with him on a business trip to the UK where he did some riding around across the pond. He is pictured here riding his fat tire Nimbus Boomerang unicycle.
These and many more photographs taken at NYUC meetings can be viewed on our Flickr site. Check out this slide show of all the photographs taken at the March 2010 meetings.
Just a couple of weeks after the big snow storm in February, a unicycle meeting took place at Grant’s Tomb. After clearing some snow so that we can spread out, a good time was had by all.
For this meeting we feature the ramp that had originally made it’s debut at the first meeting of the decade. This ramp built by Spencer’s dad turned out to be a popular attraction for the meeting. This meet had many more participants then that cold windy Sunday in January when the ramp made it’s first appearance. Jason Katz is depicted here riding up and down the ramp with the seat out back. Check out all of the February 2010 meeting photographs in this slideshow on our Flickr site.
