John Stone

1/20/01
Age 10 or 11.
My brother. More specifically, David got one first and I was frustrated walking down the street with him riding, and feeling like invisible chopped liver.
The feeling is quite different from anything else. Once you master it, the forward motion is almost effortless, and without the slightest thought, your mere body weight on the seat seems to propel you forward, your feet passively controlling the spinning pedals. I love that sense of effortless motion. Also, it's just incredibly fun.
Upon a time, I practiced skills and such, never really getting that far beyond say wheel walking, spinning, and jumping rope. More recently (the past four years), I've fallen for long distance riding in a big way. (Sometimes, I've also fallen during long distance riding in a big way!) I participated in the EUT and NUT -- organized tours from Cologne to Barcelona, and across Norway, respectively. [note from the web guy: the second picture above is from the Norway tour]
I mainly ride my Sem Deluxe 28" (with a tire that makes it a 29"). With its 110mm cranks and large wheel, I can go quite fast, but also stop quickly, making it ideal for the city. I use a modified Coker for the longer rides and touring.
I divide my non-uni time between writing essays, fiction, and music. The music is in a variety of styles ranging from genres such as ragtime, tango and waltzes, to the history of classical music (Medieval through present) with so-called "world" music elements thrown in from time to time. I collaborate with many dance, theater and film/video/animation artists, and eat balanced meals of rice, bread, pasta, and potato-stuffs. Read some of my writing at www.epinions.com/user-trust12345
